This article outlines different troubleshooting steps if you are not getting 4G LTE data speeds on your device.
Check your data usage
Some plans that include 4G LTE data also include unlimited 2G speed data. The way our system works is that once you've used up all your 4G LTE speed data, we slow your connection down to 2G speed.
Does your phone have LTE?
First confirm that your phone is capable of LTE. Most newer devices are, but you'd be surprised that a lot of devices do not.
It's not enough that your device is capable of LTE. We also need to make sure that it's compatible with our network. We broadcast LTE over specific cellular frequencies and if your device doesn't match those frequencies then you may not get LTE speeds.
To check if your device has LTE and is compatible with our network, visit WillMyPhoneWork.net enter your device make and model, then select United States and Roam Mobility as your provider.
Are you in an area with LTE coverage?
Double-check our interactive coverage map and make sure that the area you're in has 4G LTE speeds.
Our 4G network covers 98% over the U.S. population including Hawaii and Puerto Rico; however, you may not get 4G LTE speeds in remote or rural areas.
Try changing your APN to ALPHA (iOS only)
If you're using an iOS device (an iPhone or iPad), try changing your APN name to alpha instead of wholesale.
- Select Settings
- Select Cellular
- Select Cellular Data Network
- Under the Cellular Data section change the APN to the word ALPHA (leave Username & Password blank)
- Save the settings by going back to the last menu and restart your phone
Is LTE included in your Roam Mobility plan?
Make sure that your Roam Mobility plan includes 4G LTE data. If you purchased our Daily Text+Data plan, you will not get 4G LTE speed data. You must purchase one of the following plans for access to 4G LTE data:
- Daily Talk+Text+Data
- Snowbird Talk+Text+Data
- All Data-Only plans
